An observation

Harry Pearson liked to carry on about "The Absolute Sound". There is no such thing. If you attend a live music event, where you sit in the venue, how the musicians are arranged on stage, the quality of the amplification system, the skill and experience of the people running the sound board, all greatly affect what you hear. The orchestra members hear things the audience will never hear, the conductor (at a classical concert) hears things differently than the audience. If you listen to an electrically amplified instrument, what you hear is influenced by too many things to mention. If you attend a small, unamplified, acoustic instrument performance, what you hear is still affected by ambient noise and your position in the venue. Then there's always the question of the acuity of your hearing ...

So, if you have good recordings in your collection, be happy that you enjoy them, but do not be deceived into thinking you're hearing any kind of "absolute sound".
