" What makes a difference in record players is the phono cart and how well it is set up."

The tables definitely make a difference. The pickup arm is arguably the most important component in any vinyl playback system. "How well it is set up" is a direct function of the arm design. Unlike a turntable for which there is a theoretical state of audible transparency (not that transparency is the preferred sound of a turntable) there is no such possibility for pickup arms. All pickup arm designs involve audible compromise. No design, even in theory can ever be completely transparent.

The bottom line is they all make an audible difference. The value of that difference is subjective.
