...that you should hear are some of the Meyer Sound products. I've heard a few of their designs, and they have quite life-like sound.A personal story: I first heard one of John Meyer's high-output speakers way back in 1968 or '69, although I didn't know it at the time (I was still in high school). It was at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee. Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass were playing the grandstand, and there were five or six (or more?) large speakers spaced along the track. The sound was great.
Fast forward to 1974, when I studied music, audio and acoustics at l'Institut de Hautes Etudes Musicales in Montreux. There was John Meyer on the staff in the lab, designing - you guessed it - loudspeakers. It was then that I learned that McCune Sound had done the Herb Alpert sound five years earlier, and that John's speakers were the ones lined up along the track.
But the story comes full circle in 2015 or 2017, when I decided to go on what I call "The Great Bay Area Audio Adventure". One of the places I went to was McCune (www.mccune.com). Dave V. gave me a tour of the facilities. There, on shelves of their vintage equipment, were Meyer's old speakers which had been used for the Herb Alpert concert many years ago. Whooda ever thunk it! What a blast from the past! :)
