the 57s have just one narrow sweet spot

the DQ10s are more friendly that way. prodigious power is needed for them and a real subwoofer, not the additional Dahlquist "sub" that was actually just an additional woofer.

Jonas Miller sound started the separate subwoofer biz that became the M&K series. they first used a repurposed GTE speaker with the mid and tweeter eliminated and then developed the M&K line. i would love to have heard the HQD system as JWC at tas used it. the Hartley was integrated into the floor and his basement was where the rear wave was allowed to breathe into.

i had the Randall Research modded DQ10 driven by a Hafler 500 and it was rather impressive, even in the bass with the H500 on duty. to call them holographic is an understatement. the quad 57s were at least their equal provided you were EXACTLY on axis.
