"Why use inefficient/insensitive speakers?" Because they are easier to build ?

I think that voice coil gaps need to be tighter in order for cone speakers to be made easier to drive. Drivers with tight voice coil gaps are more expensive to make and are therefore unsuitable for use in the more "affordable" cone speaker designs that most of us know about and use.
