That is, " single-ended triode" can only be class A by virtue of the fact that the signal going to the speaker is delivered by the "+" cable while the "-" cable is a passive ground or "return". (Of course the one active signal is alternating current, i.e. + or - voltage.)But the huge majority of amps are "push-pull" amps meaning both "+" and "-" speaker cables are active providing equal but opposite voltages. Nevertheless push-pull amps can be class A meaning that both the push and the pull devices are delivering alternating voltages while they are operating class A.
