RE: Class A Tube amp questions???

Pure class A amps? Are you only speaking about SET amps? Many solid state push/pull class A amps are really super rich AB amps that are almost always in class A but eventually will get into class B as the bias current is surpassed. The Pass push/pull class A amps are a good example. The 25 watt Pass class A amp is 25 watts class A into 8 ohms but it actually puts out over 70 watts class B. I suspect the same is true for class A tube amps.

The only amps you can be positive are class A are SET amps. Due to single ended topology single ended amps MUST be class A. They are incapable of going into class B.

I would add that a super rich class AB push/pull amp like the Pass is operating in class A almost all the time, except on split second peaks and calling it class A is a very, very small fib.
