RE: My favorite Bette Midler quote....

Everything in business is a roll of the dice. The questions are what is risk vs reward and what do you have to work with? What they have is their brand and the reputation of their legacy products. And...I don't see much of a risk in legacy products as the bulk of the work is done. The existing infrastructure of those legacy products. Those products are designed, tested and the tooling is still largely already there.

Try buying an ARC SP-10 Mk II on the used market and see what the price is.

Would there be anything cheaper for ARC to do at this point than reproducing legacy gear? Is there anything they can make with a bigger better built in audience? There is no Bill Johnson to lead new designs. There is no legacy talent at all left at the company when it comes to creating new designs. All they really have to offer to new designs is a brand name. And new designs will be a much much bigger investment for them.

Who is really thinking "dang, you know what I really want? I want some new gear designed by who knows who with the ARC logo on it?" Bill Johnson's ARC does not exist anymore. The closest this company can ever come to Bill Johnson's ARC is reproducing his legacy designs.

Of course this is all conjecture. I could be completely wrong. But personally I don't see much, if any value in the brand name without the legacy designs.
