RE: Inventions that ruined audio .... triodes view

1. Subwoofers. I absolutely detest the grossly inaccurate, terroristic sound of these things!

- most that I have heard were not ideally integrated with the main speakers particularly planer speakers ... some can be good if they are very high quality and you really know what you are doing

.................................................
2. Digital. I have never gotten along with this highly distorted artificial sounding medium. You could say that 8 track and cassette fall into this category as well, but I prefer a cassette in a walkman over a cd regardless of its flaws.

-this is just straight up wrong on so many levels

..............................................................

3. Conventional dynamic drivers, and the horrible sounding boxes they mount them in. Have you ever heard an air-field coil speaker?

-field coil speakers are some of the best I have ever heard - in fact heard a pair at the show in costa mesa a week ago - amazing

....................................................................

Yes, well designed and damped enclosures can produces acceptable sound. But electrostatic, planar and open baffle designs sound much more natural to my ears.

in most cases this is a true statement - particularly if cost is factored in - example Magnepan LRS

...................................................

4. Solid state. After all the years that this amplification technology has existed, it still fails to sound as natural and realistic as a good old tube design.

- large single ended amps with huge tubes such as 211 and 845 have a magic to them that is almost impossible to match but there are some really good solid state amps out there which run pure class A such as PASS LABS -dont underestimate them
