If you can find a Grace F8F or F9L cartridge, that'll be a winner. My memory banks also say Ortifon(sp) and Fidelity Research made some very good cartridges.I agree with the recommendation for a Son of Ampzilla as an outboard amp for the Advent (better sounding than its dad, the Ampzilla). I've seen them for $200 in good condition over the last year. Advent tuner and pre-amp was quite good for its time and extraordinary for their price point. (Made in Mexico!)
Also, some of the old Mark Levinson solid state gear and Audio Research tube gear would be a big advance. That stuff really sounded good, even by today's standards.
I never liked Advent speakers. Epicure made a couple of modest speakers that were quite good -- I think the 100 and 11 models. And for much higher end, you might consider JBL L-200 speakers. Or early Magnaplaners.
I think best sounding solid state receivers were probably from Yamaha, Marantz, and McIntosh during the early-mid 70's. Don't know during late 70s.
