RE: relive your youth- what was your first "hifi" system?

My very first was a circa 1968 GE Mustang setup with a fold down turntable and plastic speakers that extended out to the sides. A couple of years later, I wanted something better to keep up with my friends' cool stuff, so my Mom bought me an all in one stereo at the discount department store. I thought it was pretty neat, but when my Dad found out about it he pitched a fit and said "Cheap crap! It goes back NOW!" Obviously I was crushed...until the next Saturday he took me downtown to Allied Radio in Chicago on Western Avenue. Wow! What an experience for a 16 year old kid. We came home with a Sansui AU555 integrated, Fisher 12" 3-way speakers, an Allied Radio turntable with an Empire cartridge and a small Crown FM tuner. All on sale but quite a sum of money for their modest means. I was amazed my Dad could hook up all these different components in a matter of minutes on our dining room table. I didn't have a clue. Needless to say, the rest is history. Thanks Mom and Dad!!!!! I'll never forget it.
