Hey, Vacuous:I've got a CJ MV50 too. It shouldn't be doing that. I wasn't having the pyrotechnic displays you were having, but it was going thru tubes faster than it should. I sent it to Bill Thalmann at Music Technology. Only thing wrong he could find with it was the "AC balance was way out of whack". Did his mojo...too early to tell yet if it'll go easier on the tubes, but it's a MUCH better sounding amp-better bass, better dynamics, etc. You ought to call Conrad Johnson, get an RA number, send it in. Bet that the AC balance needs adjusting.
As an aside, I've heard that the MV50 is only really happiest with the NOS fat glass Sylvania/Phillips 6CA7's, so that's what I'm using.
Sure wish I knew where to find some more, or it's gonna have to be Svetlanas for me after these go. Hope this helps. You're supposed to get 2-3 years out of a set of outputs with this amp, with "normal useage".
