General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

Makes a lot of sense.

When someone says they want to "save" the hobby, I have to ask from what? From hot bulky and clunky tube gear and being tied to your living room stereo and having to clean and change records just to listen to music?

It IS about the music isn't it? I love all the choices we have today and some of the least expensive gear can still sound wonderful unless you're an uptight "audio snob" who has to equate sound quality with price - as they do in the "recommended components" section of Stereophile. BTW. ;-)

As for classical music, I'm on the same page as you. I am uneducated when it comes to classical music. I've tried listening to some but it doesn't interest me that much.

For some reason as we grow older we feel this need to "save" the things we loved for future generations to enjoy. Why? I don't know. I don't really care. I'm enjoying myself and I don't mind if someone else doesn't enjoy the things that I do. Part of this is probably my upbringing as a military brat. Many of the toys and goodies I enjoyed as kid, I gave away or threw out whenever we had to uproot and move. I tend not to "collect" things or hang on to the past. But I'm rambling......

Just enjoying the moment. ;-)
