RE: barefoot Paul

You and I might have met, and forgot the occasion.......

I was there quite often...... When the Saras speakers, Signet tonearms, and Kinergetics amps were popular in that store...... The John Iverson Eagle 7A amp was deemed the Holy Grail at the time...... (Never had an opportunity to listen to it.)

Not to mention occasional visits to the store by Saras owner Rudy Stoklos......

I'll never forget Paul looking at my new Accuphase AC-2 cartridge on a microscope in the store, and telling me the cartridge was defective. I then saw for myself...... I then exchanged it (mail order), and it was still one of my all time favorite cartridges. I was going to try a Shinon Red cartridge, sold at the store, but the Supertramp "Crime of the Century" LP I brought for audition was permanently "regrooved" by the store's demo cartridge. I think it was a VPI TT with Signet tonearm, in the back listening room.

I was friends with a guy named Stephen Grinell (sp), who I originally met at that store. He was IMO one of the best I've known at discerning sonic flaws in an audio system. (He hated CDs- Called them "compact disasters". He was also the one who fried his BRB 200 amplifier after applying Sumiko Tweek to the amp's internal connections.) I think he eventually moved to Las Vegas because his parents were professional gamblers.

I remember when the Sound Center closed its doors and merged with Shelley's Stereo, which I think had a store roughly ten miles to the West..... Things were not quite the same after that. It was right as the CD overtook vinyl as the mainstream medium of choice. The Federated Group on De Soto also closed its doors.
