They strip the car right down and do all kinds of tests with acoustics and so forth.
The sound wasn't so impressive on my '03 Audi A4, but they did a fine job on my 2001 A4 (different body style) and other than the treble being a little too dry and a touch splashy, the overall sound is very pleasant.

Bose make fine equipment. Many people love the sound. It's no Garrard/Sugden/Yorkminster soincally, but for many people it offers a great solution. And their customer support is outstanding.
