For me, the major differences among the CD players I've heard are noticed during the dynamic swings of the music. It is possible that cheap, lightweight CD players don't pack the power-supply muscle to "keep up" with a good recording's dynamic swings. I thought of this several years ago when I was comparing the very well built Roksan Caspian CDP to a cheap, lightweight Sony CD player. The Roksan "rocked". And the Sony? Baloney.
