It is just assumed. I don't see any signs that the hifi equipment industry is withering. I see more manufacturers of 2-channel quality products than ever before. I see more 2 channel equipment available than ever before and the prices generally are not going up at alarming rates. In fact, I see the average level of audio quality from all equipment climbing rapidly, holding price constant, so that it costs less to get better 2 channel audio quality than ever before. And i think this would be easy to document, if it hasn't been done already. It just seems so obvious.
Declining CD sales, increasing IPOD sales, the home theater boom, etc are not signs that 2 channel audio is in decline. The structure of the 2 channel industry is changing, for sure. There are fewer dealers and more internet sales. This is happening in almost every consumer industry and, in many cases, without any complaints from consumers.
Folks, things just keep getting more and more different and better and better! When Christ next lands on this planet, he will likely be using an IPOD. Does that mean 2-channel is dead? Or we are?
