The statistics for electronics industry sales don't lie. I'm not saying the hi-end is dead, if your read my other posts throughout the thread you'll see what I mean. And for the short time I've been frequenting AA I've been one of the ones defending the ipod toting, vinyl embracing youngens...
As for disposable income, I have to respectfully disagree. People are much more willing to run up their credit cards than they were 20 years ago and put off savings and retirement accounts. Statistics for earnings for average Americans have been going down for at least the last 7-8 years and the economy problems everyone knows about.
And then you put on top of that all the other coveted and expensive gadgets to compete with audio gear and it shows, if nothing else, how good they have to be to compete for their attention.
