I really think the root problem is the media and music/entertainment industry shaping an environment in which people no longer have a passioned attachment to music. (Whatever attachment to music the masses have is socially motivated, rather than musically motivated.) And without the passion for music, there is no interest in high-fidelity reproduction of it.
I do know a few young audiophiles, but they somehow acquired an attachment to mostly music of the past. (Beatles, Ella/Satchmo, Fritz Reiner, etc.) And the passion for music came from there. And then the interest for quality reproduction.
To me, this is re-hashing old news. Except the author focused on the symptom, not what I think is the underlying problem.
