The reality is:
1. There will always people who love music and want the highest quality reproduction possible - these are audiophiles.
Regardless of the economy and other factors, these folks will make good audio equipment a priority, just as we all did. For us, it isn't a luxury, but a necessity.
2. The iPod is the latest equivalent to the 8 track tape, the cassette, the Walkman and the portable CD player which let people who love music take it with them and play it in more places than before.
iPods and music downloads are a good thing.
3. A small part of the music market - audiophile driven - is moving toward higher resolution music downloads from sites like MusicGiants and others. Apple is rumored to be readying lossless downloads on iTunes before the end of the year.
The apocolypse is a long way away.
