Wow, holy stereotypes in that article, Batman. I'm not that much of an aberration...
I'm one of those "file-sharing kids", and instead of buying the latest and greatest HDTV, I decided to piece together a two-channel system for my apartment. TV blows for the most part, a 27" CRT does fine for me, and if I wanted to get serious with watching movies I'd invest in a projector anyway.
Speakers are clunky and immobile, and expensive shelf systems don't play easily swappable digital files.
Errr...while moving the BIB's up to the 3rd floor definitely proved the first part right :D, over 90% of my FLAC files that I play came from the 'net, or friends that have massive FLAC collections too. And the preamp and monoblocks take up a couple shelves :)
True audiophile or no, there is a lot more competition for your dollar than just a few years ago. Most of it is not discretionary.
That's very true. With a tank of gas costing me $120ish, it's putting a dent in buying new gear for the near future :( Once I get back up to B'burg and I'm taking the bus or biking instead of driving, it'll help a ton...
