RE: Crappy recordings; good music...

I agree with the post which said that the main problem with the 'listenability' of poor recordings is in the top end (treble). I solved this problem with my CD player (Cary 303/300). It has a switchable output stage: solid state or valves. I have selected a pair of valves that gives that valve sound and also filters out the top end. It doesn't quite roll it off but seems to filter the noise out.
