RE: Ok..but look out for the "bad news"

"If that is the kind of music that thrills you then why bother with hifi at all and stick with an ipod."

Thrills me indeed!

What's worse, recently I've been listening to the various MTV satellite stations through an Arcam AVR-350 receiver and dance tracks in particular are beyond thrilling - in fact they're positively orgasmic!
Of course I DAREN'T listen to such evil through the SET system as the artists in question are still alive and not signed up to Chesky, Audioquest, Mapleshade, MFSL etc....etc.....

The link you provide says nothing which hasn't been common knowledge for years and the only surprise is that the author himself seems genuinely surprised at the compression involved in 'pop' music which has to be mixed to promote itself via a car radio, or nowadays an iPod.

The author does state that the Jennifer Lopez track is "typical of many new pop music releases" and isn't typical of all, but even compressed music can sound 'dynamic and crisp' despite the compression, or perhaps I should say 'punchy' and 'up front' in case anyone should believe I'm trying to create new definitions, although a quick reference to any dictionary might just give a wider meaning to 'dynamic' than the blinkered aspect of some individuals.
