I bought a cheap Denon that i returned a few weeks later (that sounded course and grainy) and then a Rega Planet (which seemed to lack bass and treble) which i recently sold. Neither of those sounded as musical as the Anthem - both are cheaper players but i think the tube made all the difference. Maybe i'm wrong, but for now, i have no reason to 'upgrade' my cd player based on what i've heard in recent years.
