I remember its feature set well

Never used the EQ (although it did look cool) and had only two sources. I have a separate HT system today for DVDs and cable.

BTW, how do you compensate for differences in spectral balance when you listen to different recordings?

For the most part, nothing. I correct the room instead using various treatments. Both the Advents in the garage and the Sound Labs have HF level controls to tame the occasional bright recording. I use a third octave EQ on the subs in the HT system to flatten their room response. Limited to the LFE channel only, it doesn't damage the soundstage and overall resolution as when run full range.
