what research are you referring to?

Anything on the web?

Also, as I tried to point out, there is a difference between 'spaciousness' and a 'big' sound. Most mini-monitors have a spacious sound but often not a 'big' i.e. 'fleshy' sound. A 'big' sound is not just a spacious sound plus bass -- at least I don't think it is. I really think there might be something to the overdamped vs underdamped opposition that I mentioned. The 'thin' sound you get from some ss gear is not always unpleasing and not necessarily worse than the 'fat' sound you get from some tube gear. And yes, there are 'thin' sounding tubes and 'fat' sounding ss -- though I think this is unusual. But I find tubes tend to sound richer than ss and I think this is in their nature as electrical devices -- but I will grant there are rich sounding ss units. A cheap tube unit will sound richer than a cheap ss unit, though it may not have quite the transient attack.
