The HK Citation 11 has the advantage of an on board 5 band graphic equalizer which is very useful for compensating for differences of spectral balance among recordings. The subsonic filter is also useful for removing very low frequency noise found on some CDs. This noise is in a range where lesser speakers than AR9s wouldn't even respond but with such a wide range playback system, that kind of noise can be very annoying and waste a lot of power. In my system it's the master control preamp. There's a Marantz 3800 which is a downstream slave used to adjust the main speakers relative to the surround system. The HK Citation 11 Preamp also has the advantage of plenty of inputs and outputs and accomodates a CD player, DVD player, VCR, tuner, cassette recorder and a turntable. Even more inputs are available if I need them. The limited facilities and functions of modern preamps are inadequate for my needs. This is a much better choice.BTW, how do you compensate for differences in spectral balance when you listen to different recordings?
