The Conversation is one of my favourite movies (as are the Godfather parts I and II, and Apocolypse Now, Coppola was on fire in the 70's). From a directing standpoint, I think it is even stronger than either of the Godfather films. Every shot is beautiful, and the film is a thriller of the highest quality. Gene Hackman gives the performance of his life and don't forget about the late great John Cazale! It's awesome to see all that technical stuff in the movie too. Nothing like sexy close ups of R2R tape decks.
