I've bought several used tube amps in the past. They were from reliable dealers, and I saved *thousands* of dollars in the proccess. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them, even though I chose to retube (I do that with new amps too). Risky? No more so than buying other audio gear used. I'm not sure what your point is, or if you even have one.
