Dude,There are MANY kits by Doc Bottlehead and also ASUSA for under $2k. Heck, the killer Manley Stingray (balls to the wall fun) or the cj CAV-50 (romantic and glorious) are also under the $3k limit you mentioned. Each can be loads of fun in their own way. If you want to have some masochistic fun, try the solid-state 47 Labs Gaincard (with single Power Humpty). Forget the retail, but i think this is also below the 3k mark you mentioned.
In the end what REALLY matter is that YOU...
