40; inherited the illness from my father...

Into music and than audio for as long as I can remember. I first began to perceive sonic and quality differences in high school. At that time, my system consisted of a Heath AR-1500 receiver, AR-5 speakers, Dual 1229Q TT. My modest system sounded much better than my what most of my friends had- typically JBL or Cerwin Vega speakers connected to a large Japanese receiver, fed by a generic direct drive TT. I couldn't put my finger on the reason, but my system sounded more real. My friends couldn't here the differences I heard, only that my system didn't play as loud.

From that system, I progressed to a better Dual TT, Hafler and Adcom amps, Mirage then Celestion speakers before making the jump to vintage Tube equipment.

No my system still doesn't play loud, but it still sounds better than most !

Best,

Ross
