I think the appearance and sonics are unrelated, although if it looks poorly built, i.e. flimsy, it may be poor sounding and may be unreliable in the long term. Much of the audio jewelry out there doesn't sound very good, but some does. By the same token, something that doesn't look like much might sound great and might cost less than if it's sleek looking, but it's no guarantee. I think it's a matter of personal preference. What are your priorities?
