Its also the point where different philosphies on sound reproduction start having more infleunce on systems. Most midfi/low end gear is actually enjoyable with a particular genre or slice of musical types - it has to appeal to some set of listeners or it would not sell. Theres several camps in upper midfi and hifi, in general, I break it down to those who like to tap thier feet, play air guitars and sing along versus those who prefer critical analysis of the recording and discussions on sonic attributes. Since you like rock and roll I hope you would base your equipment purchases on how well you can "get into" listening to your stereo instead of the how much of Stevie Nicks' tonsiles you can hear or that instruments are well placed in a soundfield or floating images or other such things that become obvious with system upgrades. I've owned expensive detailed and revealing gear only to realize that I could no longer enjoy or "get into" my favorite music. Dealers told me this was to be expected and I have since found new dealers who know better. I bring this negative experience up with the hopes that it may help you avoid purchasing mistakes I have made. Good luck and hope the upgrades work out!
