What is most interesting to me about the misconceptions that audiophiles so often have is that not only do their ideas fly in the face of logic, they ignore or reject the physical principles which underlie the technology they address with their secret super product of the month. So I'll say it again just in case it escaped you. There are no magnetically sensitive materials in a compact disc. It is an optical device. The very weak magnetic propeties of aluminium(I don't recall if it is diamagnetic or paramagnetic are so small as to be insignificant and would have no practical effect or be affected by application of an external magenetic field from a speaker magnet or a tape or tape head degausser.) The pits in the aluminum beneath the surface reflect the laser light and switch the phototransistor on and off creating the electrical analog of ones and zeros. That's all it does. The application of a strong magenet will not affect the optical reflectivity of aluminum.
