Kool Aid anyone?

A discussion in Speaker Asylum yesterday prompted me to make a trip to the BOSE store. I found the 701 to be acceptable, but overpriced. Everything else in the store was worse. It left me with a massive headache.

The thing that amazed me was that the sales presentation was rehearsed, word for word! One guy just kept talking about the genius of Dr Bose and how he revolutionized audio. "As a violinist he wanted the finest possible reproduction, so he designed the 901," or "The Lifestyle system provides the state of the art in home theatre sound"

It was obvious that the poor guys had no idea what they were talking about. Had I asked them about minimum impedances, or tuning frequencies, etc they would have recited some canned response; scripted by Dr Bose. Dr Bose is a good businessman and his systems do have a few nice features(size and convenience), but he doesn't walk on water.

The sad thing is, a lot of people buy into the Boom and Sizzle sound at first, but they pay way too much for it and it ultimately leads to disappointment later.

It is easy to see, based on my experience, how the uneducated who truly want good sound can fall into the trap and buy BOSE.
