General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

B.O.S.E. = Better off somewhere else

This is the saying of a friend of mine who used to be employed by the pro-audio division of the Bose corporation. Bose treats its divisions like seperate companies, and marks their components up for the other divisions in turn. That's why a Bose PA speaker that SHOULD cost $200 costs $1000. And as far as the Bose home theater is concerned, $90-$100 in parts is WAY off. Think closer to $15. Those satellite speakers, from what I've been told from the inside, cost closer to 50 cents to manufacture a piece. This is because they have no crossover, use manila paper for cones, and are in mass cast plastic enclosures. Give 10 bucks for the sub. That's outrageous. I can't fault Bose on their marketing strategy, but some people that listen to this crap need to step into the real world. The first time I heard those satellite speakers trying to reproduce stereo I almost fainted. I've heard better sound out of a Wal Mart brand clock radio, and that is no exaggeration. It was literally the worst sound that I've ever heard, worse than an old kit radio playing AM. I think that you are doing a service by steering people away from a product, such as Bose, that has virtually no relative value at all. Keep up the good work.

BTW, add Totem's Dreamcatcher 5.1 to your list of Bose-killing, equally priced alternatives.
