Re: Odyssey Dual Mono Stratos Amplifier (SS)

Well, also be cautious as to what you read from some people here such as thylantyr. For one, we've had this discussion at length, and it gets tiresome. For two, completely wrong in that the Stratos has a 400 + VA transformer, and always had one. The 300 VA unit is in the original Symphonic Line Rg 11 amp, on which we improved upon without sacrificing the sound. Same old story, just because a bigger transformer, etc. is used doesn't automatically equal an improved sound. In case with the Symphonic Line, it did make a splendid improvement. Next, keep in mind that the original Symphonic Line RG 11 used to be $ 3,400, and has an incredible heritage of nearly 20 years of continuous tuning and development by Rolf Gemein behind it. The underhanded ("hehehe, it's only a $ 1 k amp, so what ???") remarks are uncalled for and show that you don't have an idea as to what the amp really is, what it stands for, and where it's coming from. From $ 3400 all the way down to $ 1070 while improving upon it, and it being a Symphonic Line. Do I have to say more ??? Did these guys listen to it ??? These are issues that are dear to me as this is somewhat of my life's work and my livelihood, and obviously, quick "off-remarks" and the likes are uncalled for. Listen to the amp at length first, look at what it is as for price/performance, look at the build and parts quality, and then make a remark. Unless, of course, you have no intention to do so and have a different agenda. Been there, seen it.

Lastly, I see several remarks regarding Tyson. Don't really have to defend him as he's perfectly capable of doing so himself, but just because somebody is enthusiastic about present units and progressing within his system choices, that doesn't automatically equate to him / her being a shill. Who knows, and some of my most enthusiastic customers might go on to different products down the road, which they have all the rights to do so. If they'll be more enthusiastic about the new systems, so be it. The fact that some people immediately call foul once certain people (and there are quite a few on both sides) voice their opinions just shows me that these guys are even more close minded and probably even more opinionated regarding certain products than the posters in the first place.

It's always been music first, dammit, and as such, there is no such thing as a bad or good choice in regards to system appraoches, as it's too personal a choicse. Can't believe that I'm stating the obvious.

Later,
Klaus
