I'm hoping that the Inmates can settle an issue regarding tone controls. Note, this isn't a question about the legitimacy of tone controls, rather this is a question about how they work.I have a friend that insists that the controls for treble and bass work by only limiting the signal flowing through. Therefore he always has both his treble and bass controls set to their maximum setting on his Arcam AVR100 receiver so that his signal isn't limited.
I always thought that anything above the "center" setting was actually boosting. Therefore I've always set my controls for the "center" (12 o'clock) because I want the least amount of processing performed on the signal.
Thanks
