25 years isn't very long. That would be 1998. Try going back 50 years to 1973. The 1970s were the heyday of the hifi market. Everybody and their dog was buying a hifi system. Here's a Revox brochure I picked up at the hifi shop on the main drag in Montreux. An A77 was selling (at retail) for sFr 1390. With a currency exchange rate of about 3.75 Swiss francs per dollar, that was $370. Doesn't seem like a lot now, and maybe wasn't a lot for a working person, but for a short-on-cash music student, it was a lot of money. I ended up buying one in '78 or '79 in the States for $850 (cost plus 10%, 7-1/2 and 15 ips, half-track). My Schoeps dual-pattern microphones were $900 each when I bought them in 1980 - now they're more like $1,800.
Of course, part of price increases on imported goods is due to the Dollar being in the dumper. 1973: 3.75 Swiss francs per Dollar. 2022: ONE Swiss franc.
