Re: affordable power conditioning

you can defenately benefit fron a line conditioner. i used to live in a very old building in san francisco, where i had a lot of a/c issues. a conditioner helped for sure. imho, stay away from the monster stuff (just mho). first thing you need to do is figure out how many watts you will require. you can usually find the power requirements on the back of your equipment or in a manual. add up all of your equipment. your cdp is probably under 30 watts, preamp around 100 at start-up and your amp and sub are probably both over 200 watts (just my guess). so a good conditioner won't be super cheap, but in the long run your sound will most likely improove and you will have some fluctuation protaction. it's also a good thing to separate your digital and analog equipment. most conditioners have this capability, but i would keep it in mind. i recently sold a tripplite lcr2400 for $150 and bought a balanced power technologies unit. i am very pleased with it's proformance.
