because many components are built by the appliance manufacturer, and can be really low reliability. Example: washers tanks walls.
On the contrary, purely electronic gear like audio use standard components, which are built with assessment of reliability (because it would be more expensive to use special manufacturing).I'm fond of high quality appliances (which, btw, in case of a failure are much easier to fix by a technically savvy yourself than low quality appliances. Furthermore, failure are non cumulative on well-designed equipment.) I only keep high quality appliances.I expect them to last 30 or 40 years.
My brands of predilection: Miele (washers, ovens, stove), Singer (microwave), Kitchen Aid (food processor), husqvarna (garden), philips (small appliances).
Also, figure if there is a professional activity that would use the appliance you want to buy, and buy it at a specialized supplier. Those only sell high quality equipment, because their customers earn money thanks to what they sell, and would be upset in case of failure or lousy service. For example, buy a hair-blower at a supplier of hairdressers. Won't be disappointed
