it is important to consider the difference between a fragile design used within it's design envelope and a design that fails when properly used. i have never had a piece of gear that 'just broke'.....every time i had an 'issue' i was in some way or another the cause.some cutting edge gear rightfully can be a bit fragile if that aspect of the gear contributes to unique performance benefits. if given the choice between compromised performance but 'idiot proof' and superior performance but 'fragile' i'll choose the latter every time. that's life at the 'edge'.
in a perfect world all the very best gear would be made like tanks.
