Re: Pjay at HE2005 trip report

The room you speak of was my room. Our attempt, although we realized it might not be completely understood at first, was to purposely show a very large speaker in a very small room. Most speakers that size would completely overload a small room and the bass would be so bloaty it would be unbearable. Our goal was to show that the Von Schweikert VR9SE's could be adjusted quite easily to integrate in such a small room. Granted, we knew that the sense of space and width of stage would not be there and the room would pressurize quite easily, but we believed we could get clean, tight and flat bass response. The VR9SE's have actively driven bass below 50 hz and also have extreme flexibility in all the tweeters. I think it worked out quite well.

The system was adjusted for a listening height of about 40" and one really needed to be in the sweet spot for proper listening. Even off access, the sound was good. Standing up though, the bass was boomy.
