Kimber IsoMike / Meitner DSD / DiAural demo...

I was beginning to think I was the only one who heard Ray's demo. I posted earlier I felt he had Best in Show sound.

At 6PM Friday I ended up with an almost private, 40 minute demo with Mr. Kimber. You need a quiet room to really appreciate what Ray has accomplished.

The drum kit was the most dynamic I've ever heard in audio playback, and his string quartet recordings almost brought me to tears. Ray contends it's the best string quartet recording in existence; while I'm no expert on the entire recorded catalog as recorded by man, I'll none the less concur. (I do hear a fair share of live mike feeds in top recording studios like Skywalker Sound.)

When I got home I was a bit stunned about how unique the experience of the Kimber demo was, and was curious how much the DiAural crossover had to do with it. (The speakers were unusual to say the least, small conventional [twin Dynaudio?] bass cabinets with spheres sitting on top. The spheres have a center tweeter flanked by a crescent of six [super?] tweeters. Photos would help here...)

Then I recalled that Ray had given me some lovely parting gifts, CD copies of the DSD IsoMike recordings from CES and HE 2003 demos. Now these are just cd copies of his DSD master, but I'll be damned if much the same magic I heard in Ray's demo didn't show up in my system.

So, does Best in Show sound have to be verified by familiar software?

Looking forward to SACD's made with Ray's IsoMike... (Sony should master it for free!)

(FWIW, I think Rives brilliantly introduced their new box by slipping it into multiple rooms.)
