...i've noticed that my system would sound differently, if something similar is being applied.
for example, instead of dialing geoff for the teleportation tweak, i simply unplugged the telephone wire to the phone outside my listening room - and voila - more open soundstage, less bloatedness in the mid-bass and overall more transparent sound.
another example - instead of getting that clever little clock sold in his website - i tested the battery-operated mechanical clock next to my system in the room. well, actually that clock has been with me in the room ever since i've moved in. i took turns to moved the clock in and out of my room. and the effect is easy to hear. with the clock in the room, my system has a little bit of "sheen" at the extreme top end. it is somewhere hovering slightly above 16kHz, where you can just barely "hear" it. take it out of the room, and that "sheen" would disappear. with the added "sheen", the system is perceived to be "clearer" and "more exciting". without it, it seems "dull" if immediately compared. otoh, i also noticed that a battery-operated clock with liquid display makes my system sound slightly unpleasant. and i also notice that removing the battery from the mechanical clock is almost similar to taking out the clock from my room. in the end i opted to remove the battery operated mechanical clock from my room permanently, since it gradually dawned on me that timbre reproduction of my system is more natural, more closer to live without the layer of "sheen". and once i've learnt to identify that "sheen", by stopping to wearing a wrist watch sinergistically removes another layer of the "sheen" from my system. the combined effect of not having the clock and the waist watch in my room makes the music seems "softer" in SPL levels even though the pre-amp volume is still the same. i can enjoy the music played at louder SPL level than before, hear all the lower level details better, without feeling any strain like i used to. i now play most of my music +2dB higher than previously with my pass lab X2.5 pre-amp.
geoff is definitely on to something. but our interpretation of the results from the application are different. anyway, thanks geoff, for the inspiration.
