I have been switching for AP on my spherical spkrs, since less than a yr after I bought them. Thanks to a listening session visit by the designer/builders of the Audiosphere Model 3.
One of them TOLD me "Tim, your spkrs are out of phase with this recording". EH? wotta concept!!!!!
And, that was in 1981!
IME Decca's classic/al recordings - tend to show AP up really well. The Dorati Haydn Paris period symph's specifically.
these were mostly done with 'the DECCA Christmas tree' - the main stereo array - being 3 closely spaced omnis / | \ on a short bar. Plus 4 or more omnis in a rectangle over the musicians, plus spots if needed.
Being atube amp owner and using single banana plugs, I found the task onerous, and a bittuvawurry too re shorting them together.
I eventually went to bi-amping and added a FPDT relay to each xover*, this was when I took them out of the 'spheres. Switched at my seat.*No low-pass, and a 3rd order high-pass at 3.5k, in an 8-inch two way? 91db/w, 35hz-13khz @-3db, all that, way back then!!!!!!?
yep! AND I bought them 'instead of' QUAD 57's, and a few others to boot.
