Hi Mike,

There is no right polarity. The reason is that recordings come both ways . There is no standard.

So, you cannot set your system to "the right polarity" because that polarity will be right only for some of your recordings. What we need is the ability to switch polarity to suit each recording. That can be a switch on a CD player or preamp, or physically switching the speaker wires, which is what I do. (Just use good bananas.)

Folks with speakers that have steep crossover slopes and/or drivers wired out-of-phase may not hear the effects of reversing polarity. If you do, though, you'll probably find that some of your recordings sound much better than you thought they did. Best damn free tweak ever.
