General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

I'll answer this in a general way before getting to specifics

I've been at this hobby for a much shorter period of time than many posters here (about 5 years, although I've always been generally interested in stereos). What I'm finding is that I'm getting more and more attuned to good and bad aspects of sound reproduction and hence more and more critical. This isn't audio nervosa at work but a kind of refinement in listening and understanding.

My irreplaceable pieces - and why:

My Metrum Octave DAC - not that it's the best DAC ever but I'm not convinced that there is a big sonic difference between actual DACs and would rather concentrate on jitter and power supplies.

Lightspeed Attenuator - great piece and it would sell for about $250 on the used market. Why would I sell a component this good for $250?

Magnestand MMGs: the modding would drop the resale value. They look & sound great. My actual pair are irreplaceable (literally) because of the design. They work really well in my listening room and god help me if my wife & I ever move again.

What I want to sell: my Martin Logan sub (I hate integrating subs - they never sound right and you have to adjust them all the time).
