Laugh! As if systems capable of bringing musical satisfaction to a wide variety and diversity of recording qualities and musical styles are just everyday "vanilla systems".
Geez anyone can build a system that sounds best on good recordings and bad on less than ideal recordings. That's the average vanilla system.
"The goal of some being to preserve the musical integrity "
Sure and the wider the diversity of recordings that maintain musical integrity the better the system.
Simply saying that a system sounds best with some recordings and bad with other recordings is nothing. This is going to be true even for poorly mismatched, broken and improperly setup systems. Wow how impressive!
Crappy stereos, boom boxes, car stereos, etc. don't sound good with most normal/average quality pop/rock recordings.
But even a Bose system can bring goosebumps with the right recordings. I think it's funny that so many seem to be satisfied spending so much more to get the same sorry results but with different recordings.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
