Re: Rega / Jolida / LS3/5a - Any experiences or comments out there/

I also have 15 ohm LS3/5a loudspeakers that I use in the "second" system. Actually it is the living room system where my wife wanted little or no audio-geek intrusions.
So, I use a tuner or the NAD CD player/changer as the source. Pop 5 discs in, hit play or shuffle, and there's five hours of music.
You indicated that these speakers are inefficient -- and I agree in part -- but there's more to the story. When I've run solid state, they require pretty significant power. I had a MacIntosh 1700 receiver with supposedly 45 wpc and it would really struggle. Mid 80's NAD receivers did fine for volume...but music?
The last several years I've been "rolling" vintage tube receivers and integrated amps through the system -- and I've found that even the smallest amps (using pp 6BQ5 with maybe 16 wpc, or pp 6V6 with maybe 10 wpc) have sufficient power to play the LS3/5a quite satisfactorily. (I've also stuck my main system amplification -- Cary 300B SE monoblocks -- into the system to see how it sounds and they drive the LS3/5a loudspeakers just fine.) I figure that the tube amps respond favorably to the high impedance that loudspeakers show. My order of preference for MUSICALITY among the classic units I've heard:
Fisher X-100 integrated
Bogen AN-30 integrated
Fisher 500C receiver
Scott 222C
Eico HF-81
Scott LK-72

You can find these units in great shape for as little as $150 for the integrateds -- and an excellent condition Fisher 500C should only be $400 or so.
Enjoy.
